Discovering an oasis in Chester

A couple of weeks ago I facilitated a Street Wisdom event in Chester. I’ve attended two Street Wisdom events before, but this was the first I’d organised and led. An amazing group of people joined me and we spent time slowing down, tuning into our surroundings, and seeking wisdom from the streets and green areas of Chester (such a beautiful city).

I got a little time to do my own mini Street Wisdom whilst everyone else was exploring and I decided to focus on what I’d like to do in August (when I am taking time off work). A few things stood out to me as I was walking and observing about boundaries, time, and work. The thing which really resonated though was taking a different look at something I’ve seen many times before:

I’ve shopped in Oasis in the past, but never really thought about the word and what it means. It really appealed to me so I stopped and thought about what an oasis was for me, and then I searched for a definition. I found this:

a pleasant or peaceful area or period in the midst of a difficult or hectic place or situation

This is totally what I want from August! I sat down opposite Oasis and jotted down some notes in my bullet journal, and then spent the journey home mind mapping what oasis meant for me and how I could incorporate this into my plans for August. It gave me a fresh perspective and is really helping me hold on to what I’m seeking at the moment.

Facilitating a Street Wisdom event was a different experience to participating, and I really enjoyed it. I loved sharing the Street Wisdom approach with other people who will be able to utilise this whenever they wish in future. I loved meeting new people and supporting them in their journey. I loved hearing about their experiences and what they had learnt from the morning. One of the participants shared a review of their experience and commented on what they had learnt from the streets, and said:

It’s a lovely way to get to know yourself, other people and the place you do it in, a lot better

I couldn’t have put it better myself! I imagine I’ll facilitate another Street Wisdom in future; if you’re interested in being kept up to date you can sign up for my monthly newsletter, or you can sign up for new event alerts on the Street Wisdom website.
